Upgrades to Kings Canyon Rim Walk

The Department of Natural Resources, Environment, The Arts and Sport (NRETAS) advises that upgrades to Kings Canyon Rim Walk in Watarrka National Park may cause minor delays this month.

The Territory Government has awarded a $93,000 contract to Alice Springs company MPH Carpentry & Construction Pty Ltd to build rock steps and repave areas of the walking track surface.

These upgrades will provide a safer, more comfortable walk for visitors, as well as assist in the protection of Watarrka’s natural resources.

The work began Monday, 5 December 2011 and is expected to continue to Saturday, 24 December 2011.

Some temporary detours are likely and disruptions to normal traffic flow may be experienced during this period, resulting in some sections of the track being narrower than normal.

Visitors are advised to exercise care on the Kings Canyon Rim Walk during this period.
