    • PERTH >> ALBANY 4WD TRACK LAUNCHED

      from ABC Great Southern:
First there was the Bibbulmun for walkers, then came the Munda Biddi for cyclists and now there is an option for off-road enthusiasts.
After 10 years in development, the 'MundAl Track' was finally launched by the Four Wheel Drive Association of WA last week and covers 900km of forest and farmland between Perth and Albany.
Association chairman Bruce Brinkley said the route was accessible for all four-wheel drive vehicles, camper trailers and even some all-wheel drive models.
"It's basically an alternative to driving down the bitumen from Perth to Albany," he said.
"There are some brilliant camping areas in there alongside some of the lakes and in the bush itself.
"It also gives you an opportunity to pop into the towns to use the B'n'B's and stay in a hotel."
The track passes through Dwellingup, Collie and Boyup Brook before reaching the south coast.
Mr Brinkley said there was a goal to expand the track to encompass a 4500 km circular route.
From Albany it will take drivers back up through Kalgoorlie, to Leanora, Mt Magnet, across to Moora and then back down.
There are no maps for the MundAl Track but drivers can download the Mundaring to Albany Waypoints from the Association website
