Hmm.. never heard 'I got kitten' before.. and I can't find it anywhere on the internet either..

It seems that there is a kind of disagreement between Leo (http://www.leo.org) and my dictionary. Leo says `to have kittens´ means to be very happy or excited about something. My dictionary says `to get kitten´ means to be very angry or even infuriated.

Well, my (American) teacher said about idioms: `It´s hard to know them all but it´s impossible to understand English without knowing at least some of them.´ And she was absolutely right! X(

  • Ah yes, it is 'I'm having kittens' .. but it's not 'haben' - it's 'zur Welt bringen'!

That's an easy mistake! We normally say 'She's having a baby'. This doesn't mean 'Baby haben'! This means 'schwanger!'

But the idiom 'To have kittens' means 'ganz aus dem Häuschen sein.'

That reminds me, for 'schwanger', some Australians say 'she's preggo' (She's pregnant).

    '

Well, when I was about five years old I wished to own a cat so much that I may have begged my mother to give birth to a kitten. Fortunately I got one but not from my mother´s belly but from a member of an animal welfare society. ;)

    Thanks anyway. :)
