Residents in the State’s South-West are facing stormy weather this afternoon with wind gusts up to 110km already recorded in some areas.
The Bureau of Meteorology has updated a severe weather warning for the South-West and southern coastal districts, including Albany and Esperance, to warn of dangerous conditions this afternoon and tonight.
A low moving south of the State is expected to cause strong and squally winds with damaging gusts that could result in damage to property for the remainder of today.
In isolated areas locally destructive gusts in excess of 125kmh may cause further damage and heavy surf conditions are forecast that could cause some beach erosion.
The State Emergency Service has advised that people should secure loose items and stay indoors when strong winds develop. Boat owners should ensure that small crafts are securely moored.
Driving conditions will be hazardous and in the event of flash flooding, affected roads, watercourses and floodways should be avoided.
The next warning will be issued at 4pm today.
