Changes made to the Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) on 17 May 2008 19/05/2008 close New
Twelve additional skilled occupations were added to the MODL and one skilled occupation was removed from the MODL.

The occupations added were:

Engineering Manager
Computing Professional - specialising in Data Warehousing
Computing Professional - specialising in Linus
Computing Professional - specialising in .Net Technologies
Computing Professional - specialising in Solaris
Computing Professional - specialising in Unix
Electronics Engineer
Optometrist
Dental Technician
Binder and Finisher
Landscape Gardener
Tree Surgeon
The occupation removed was:

Computing Professional - specialising in Sybase SQL Server
General Skilled Migration visa applicants who lodged their applications before 17 May 2008 and nominated Computing Professional - specialising in Sybase SQL Server will still be eligible for the award of MODL points.

Changes to the Skilled Occupation List 7/05/2008 close
A number of changes were implemented to skills occupations, relevant assessing authorities and points for general skilled migration on 28 April 2008.

· VETASSESS is now the assessing authority for residents of India, Sri Lanka, UK, South Africa and the Philippines for the following occupations:

· Supervisor, electricians [ASCO Code: 4311-01]

· Supervisor, plumbers [ASCO Code: 4431-01]

· Supervisor, refrigeration and air-conditioning mechanics [ASCO Code: 4312-01]

· Supervisor, motor mechanic [ASCO Code: 4211-01]

· Supervisor, carpentry and joinery [ASCO Code: 4411-01]

· Supervisor, electrical distribution tradespersons [ASCO Code: 4313-01]

· Supervisor, bricklayers [ASCO Code: 4414-01]

Please note that TRA will finalise all applications received to date from applicants seeking skills assessment for the occupations listed above from the effected countries. TRA will not accept applications post marked after 2 May 2008.

· The occupation of Engineering Manager [ASCO Code: 1299-17] can now be assessed by either Engineers Australia or the Australian Institute of Management.

· The occupation of Chiropractor [ASCO Code: 2387-11] can now be assessed by either Council on Chiropractic Education Australasia Incorporated or the State Chiropractors/Osteopaths Registration Board.

· The occupation of Osteopath [ASCO Code: 2387-13] is now assessed by the State Chiropractors/Osteopaths Registration Board.

· The appropriate State/Territory Medical board is the assessing authority for the following occupations:

§ Teacher – Secondary School Teacher [ASCO Code: 2413-11]

· The occupation of Seafarer - Ship's Surveyor [ASCO Code: 2542-17] has been removed from the skilled occupation list.
