Trades Recognition Australia Update - Migration Assessment Policy
Proposed Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) Migration Assessment Policy for Skilled Migration Purposes
Further to our previous update on the impending Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) policy for skills assessment applications for General Skilled Migration purposes, we can now provide further detail of the requirements to be introduced. The TRA have now released the proposed Migration Assessment Policy (MAP).
The new approach has streamlined the previous pathways to simplify the assessment process. Trade occupations remain in high demand in Australia and applicants are encouraged to apply for migration on the basis of their trade skills.
The following information has been provided from the Migration Assessment Policy (MAP)
International Stream – Skill Stream B
Skill Category 1: Training/Skills Recognition: Applicants must provide evidence of having completed either formal vocational training or formal skills recognition.
Formal vocational training must:
§ Consist of structured institution based tuition; and
§ result in the award of a formally recognised qualification applicable to the nominated occupation.
Formal skills recognition must:
§ result from completion of a workplace assessment; or
§ be confirmed by a recognised industrial or occupational licence.
The workplace assessment must:
§ have been undertaken by an organisation accredited by an authorised governing body whose standards can be independently verified by TRA; and
§ result in the award of a formally recognised qualification applicable to the nominated occupation.
Skill Category 2: Employment: Applicants must also demonstrate at least four (4) years employment.
§ Note; applicants are able to claim a maximum of one (1) year credit towards their employment if they provide evidence of completing formal vocational training, such employment must include a skill level transition.
Further details, including details of Skill Stream A (Australian Qualifications), are available via the TRA website.
The new policy is scheduled to come into effect on 1 September 2008 and a new application form for skills assessment will be issued by the TRA.
