Comparisons between Australia and Germany

• Good things about Deutschland!

Deutschland: I can set my watch to the trains and buses.
Australia: Trains and buses always late, if they come at all.

Deutschland: No flies.
Australia: Billions of flies.

Deutschland: Excellent beer (except Kölsch!)
Australia: Shitty beer (except Coopers!).

Deutschland: A cornucopia (Füllhorn) of delicious bread varieties.
Australia: Crappy white American-style bread.

• Well, i have no experience with the flies here but the rest is pretty true.

So, im a german here in australia and i love this country and the people here, but there are a few small isues that are realy "better" in germany ;)

Anyway, to the point with the buses: they are not always to late, many time the fu... bus is just to early!
from 7 minutes to early up to 10 min to late is the normal range. If they come at all...

But i have one more:
Deutschland: good, affordable high-speed internet connections with flatrates
Australia: slow broadband connection with quota restrictions for a high price

Greets from a german, lives in australia and loves the country ;)

• Good things about Australia!

Deutschland: Nobody speaks to the bus driver.
Australia: People often say "G'day" to the driver when they get on the bus, and "Thanks" or "Cheers" when are getting off the bus.

Deutschland: People don't wait for other people to get off the bus or train first, before getting on themselves. Instead, they try to push past to get on board.
Australia: First wait till people have finished getting off the train or bus. Much more logical.

Deutschland: Beaches only have muddy, shallow water with no waves, and not much sand.
Australia: Thousands of kilometres of beaches with perfect yellow or white sand, and often big waves.

Deutschland: No coral reefs.
Australia: Great Barrier Reef, Ningaloo, etc.

• ok,
nice beaches and coral reefes etc are not man made. so we cannot say those are aussie achievements.
aussie has great climatical variety. deutschland because of its size has not.
aussie has a foreigner as head of state, deutschland has not.
aussie has shit beer (except coopers and tassie beers), deutschland has generally better quality beer.
aussie school leavers are quite stupid generally. deutschland's are not much better.
aussie politicians are mostly wankers, but are germans better?
aussies don't value add, they don't make things. why is there no aussie car, 4 wheel drive, motor cycle, air craft etc. all is imported. mostly from bloody china :baby: :baby: :baby:
i'm getting a heart attack! ?( :baby:

You can´t say in general: I´m living in the middle of Germany. Children here never see snow since years....
Weather is changing rapidly. In our region partly only 1 week in winter with minus degrees. And that´s since some years.
Differences between the regions in G. are partly very strong. Middle part mostly have a very soft winter.

• Hans,

Some people in Perth would be happy to move out of their cars into a 85m2 Wohnung. But first they have to find one and then be able to pay for it.

Don't know how many people live in cars in say Bremen. ?(

Dislexsics: a) Dislexsics are teople poo! b) Dislexsics of the world untie! c) Dislexsic agnostics don't believe in a dog!

• Yes, some people. In Berlin it seemed the rule. We paid DM1700 a month for a shitty 95m² place. Only some people lived in a house.

• well I think it's difficult to generalise anyway.

Friends of mine live in the east parts of Berlin (Friedrichshain), they pay under EUR 500.- for a 130qm "Altbauwohnung" with plastering and large balkony.

We traded our luxury maisonette, 120qm apartment with 3 large roof-decks located in the middle of Hamburg City (Schanze) for EUR800.-/monthy for a small, wooden "summerhouse", 85qm w/o heating close to Brisbane CBD. Our rent almost doubled and Brisbane is certainly no comparison to Hamburg!

Cheers, Yvonne

• Looks like things have changed a bit, my experience is from 1995 and the post-unification high where landlords in Berlin could do what they liked. Can't believe you had your Hamburg digs for 800 Euro a month.

• Don't worry Yvonne,
Hans suffers from "germano phobia". There is not one little thing good about Germany (believe he only knows Berlin). If you critizise Australia then he always comes up with some shitty thing in Germany that is worse.
Otherwise he's alright. :]

• Probably it also depended on the location in Berlin. I know that rents in West Berlin are much higher than the ones in the former East Parts of the City.

Hamburg was a lucky one as well. We hunted for quite a long time and only got the place because we were able to move in within one week (despite 3month notice).

brocken: I luv Hans and his Germano Phobia!!!!

Germanophobia would be a fear of Germany. That's not the case at all, its more disgust or contempt.... 8)

looks like there is a plentiful supply of shity things in Germany , this might be the reason for his ability to bring up so many reasons . he gets my nomination for next years New Years Day gong distribution for OAM MBE anyway :P :D :D :D for services in the defence of Oz from Teutonic Hordes and their inflated importance of their Motherland OH sorry Fatherland that is :P

Da hattet ihr aber Glück. Wir haben in Hamburg für unsere 3-Zi-90m² Neubauwhg ein paar S-Bahn-Haltestellen weiter westlich über EUR1150/monatlich bezahlt.
