Hier eine Mitteilung die wir am Freitag per email erhalten haben und sicher fuer alle Non Aus citizen und non PR Leute (vorallem 457 Holders) von interesse sein wird:
Hello
The Australian Taxation Office recently announced its intention to alter the eligibility requirements for the Living Away from Home Allowance (LAFHA). The proposed changes will come into effect on 1 July 2012 and will primarily affect foreign nationals working temporarily in Australia (for example, 457 visa holders).
Under the proposal, only those foreign nationals who maintain a home for their own use in Australia, and who are required to live away from that home for employment purposes will be eligible for LAFHA from 1 July.
It is anticipated that there will be no change to LAFHA benefits for Australian citizens and permanent residents who are required to live away from their normal place of residence in order to perform their duties (eg. FIFO or temporary domestic relocations). Home leave and child education expenses are not expected to be affected by the changes.
Under the current proposal, there will be no transition period for existing LAFHA recipients after 1 July 2012, the benefit will simply cease.
The ATO has called for submissions and will undergo a consultation period, with more clarity around the changes expected to be provided in April or May next year. We will endeavour to provide further updates (including information sessions) early in the new year, and/or as more information comes to hand.
