Need some advice about methods for a longer stay in Australia

  • Hi everybody,

I am looking for some advice or second opinion about many things which are worrying me at the moment.

I wrote the IELTS last week. I will get my results on Thursday. Really sure that I won't get a high score, maybe only a 6.

On searching for information about the visa possibilities I have in order to stay here for work, I found that the only possibilities are the visas 175, 176, 457 or 475. It seems so that for some of them I need to pass a points test of 65 points.

As I am already 39 years old (my next birthday is in May), 4 years and 8 months work experience as IT Consultant, got the German nationality, Bachelor's (German) Degree, IELTS (probably 6, so score=0 points) my score according to the point system criteria is only 45. In order to get a score of 65 I would need an IELTS score of 8 in all modules. Totally difficult and unreachable for me, more so because I am not an English native speaker.

For the Sponsored Visa I need a Sponsor, what is difficult to find as most of the companies prefer permanent residents to overseas workers without permanent residence.

Someone was suggesting me to enroll in university and get a job, no matter if the job is only temporary and not related to my work expectations (salary, exactly what I did in the past), but at least in the IT area. I find this a bad idea, as I would need to write the Academic IELTS and get at least 6.5. With a student visa I would be entitled to work only 20 hours a week. Studies here are extremely expensive, especially for foreigners.

Another suggestion of him was to get in contact with an Immigration Agent, which minimal would cost $1500 and as he says, would be a guarantee to stay here longer.

I don't know what to do. I only know that I need a job and of course, it would make me happy to stay here longer but with a job according to my expectations and without necessarily having to resort to the methods he suggested.

What do you think about it?.

I would appreciate any advice :)

  • The best (only :D) methods to stay in Australia longer is to get a visa which allows you to do so.
To this end, you can find an employer sponsor, get in to a de-facto or married relationship with an Aussi or enrol in a course of study or apply for a General Skilled Migration visa (65 points).
Oh, and nobody can guarantee you a visa!.

    Cheers

"It would make me happy to stay longer.." - Bist Du denn schon hier?

    Viele Glueck

    Christian

  • Thanks guys for your answers.
cwoern: I prefer to write in English as it is easier for me to express myself in this language. And yes, I've been in Brisbane since August this year.

Thanks for your compliments about my Writing in this forum! :-). Another thing is the IELTS. I couldn't write the 250 words in the exam, so I'll lose some points. Maybe I should learn to write under time pressure. Anyway...

Yes, I agree with you that a Sponsorship seems to be one of the best solutions.
Let's see if I have luck...at the moment I am applying for Accenture as they are offering a job related to my work experience...I think it is not a good idea to write in my Resume that I am seeking a Sponsorhip. The chances to get it read by the Employers could become fewer.

  • ...I have a Student visa which expires in February. At the moment I'm going to a language school.
