Planting garlic imported from overseas, or from the Eastern States, is not permitted in Western Australia as it will not have been inspected for growing purposes. Garlic imported from overseas is fumigated and will not grow well, especially in the first year. Some garlic sent from the Eastern States to Western Australian markets may have originally been imported from overseas and then fumigated.
