The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for the Perth metropolitan and surrounding areas, Midwest Gascoyne, Goldfields Midlands region and southern parts of Western Australia for today.

for Widespread Damaging Winds with Locally Destructive Gusts
For people in parts of WA southwest of a line from Lancelin to Southern Cross to
Israelite Bay. This includes people in, near or between the following towns:
Albany, Bridgetown, Margaret River, Busselton, Bunbury, Katanning, Narrogin,
York, Southern Cross, Esperance, Mandurah and the Perth Metropolitan Area.

WEATHER SITUATION
A strong cold front is expected to cause WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS to 100
kilometres per hour which could result in DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY. In
isolated areas DANGEROUS GUSTS in excess of 125 kilometres per hour could cause
SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE OR DESTRUCTION TO HOMES AND PROPERTY.
DANGEROUS SURF CONDITIONS are also expected.
The bad weather is expected southwest of a line from Lancelin to Corrigin to
Bremer Bay during Friday morning. During Friday afternoon and early evening, the
bad weather should extend further east towards Esperance and Southern Cross.
A wind gust of 100 kilometres per hour was reported at Cape Leeuwin at 9:42am.
People in the southwest of WA experience a front as windy as this about 5 times
per year.
WHAT TO DO
For personal safety FESA State Emergency Service [SES] advises you to secure
loose objects, move vehicles under cover and stay inside away from windows. If
caught outside you should find shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water
drains and streams. If you own a boat ensure it is securely moored. Take extra
care on the roads as flooding is possible. If you are driving through heavy rain
slow down and turn your lights on or if visibility becomes low pull over and
park until it passes.
