Etihad confirms flights to Australia

Hallo Leute,
nur mal zur Info, was Etihad Airways so plant:

Abu Dhabi: Etihad Airways, the National Airline of the United Arab Emirates, has confirmed that it will begin flights to Australia within the next few months from its base in Abu Dhabi.

This follows the conclusion of an extended aviation bilateral agreement between the governments of the United Arab Emirates and Australia.

Etihad Airways Chief Executive, James Hogan, said: “We appreciate the support of the Government of Abu Dhabi in securing the additional rights that will allow us to start flights to Australia in the next few months. I believe that our service will significantly drive and support the development of trade and tourism between the UAE and Australia. We are finalising the arrangements and hope to announce full details shortly.”

Das solltet ihr unbedingt im Auge behalten - nicht zuletzt bietet Etihad einen Super-Service (wir sind im November mit ihnen nach Bangkok geflogen und ich meine - für uns waren es die bisher angenehmsten Langstreckenflüge, die wir bisher hatten!) und 30kg Freigepäck auch in der Holzklasse. Wenn dann noch die Verbindungen über Abu Dhabi (der derzeitige Flughafen ist erschreckend klein!) nach DU stimmen und man keine langen Zwischenaufenthalte hat, dürfte Etihad eine ernstzunehme Alternative zu EK, SIA oder CX sein.

ja, liebe Gitte, es gibt 2 Airlines in den UAE - Emirates ist die private Airline, Etihad die staatliche, erst 2003 gegründete Airlines. Emirates Heimatflughafen ist bekannterwesie Dubai, Etihad flight über Abu Dhabi (wie gesagt: ein sehr kleiner Flughafen) und des gibt einen Bustransfer nach Dubai, wenn man den Flug dahin bei Etihad gebucht hat.

Was es in Dubai zu sehen gibt? Schau mal ins Forum - da wurde es schon diskutiert... aber auf jeden Fall findest du "Größenwahnsinn, Wüste und Wolkenkratzer". Wir wollten einfach nur weiter und es hat uns nicht gefallen in Dubai.

Da wir bereits mit Emirates und jetzt mit Etihad geflogen sind, können wir auf jeden Fall sagen, dass Etihad unser Favorit ist und wenn sie nach DU düsen und der Preis stimmt auch (und das wird er, denn auch nach Südostasien ist die Airline sehr am powern und hat Superpreise), dann ist Etihad auf jeden Fall eine Empfehlung. Nicht zu vergessen die 30kg Freigepäck... aber ich wiederhole mich. Kann einfach nicht genug von dieser Airline schwärmen... =).

Leider gelten diese Promo-Preise (für 1.700 Euro UK - Sydney - UK für 2 Personen) vorerst nur für Abflüge ab England, aber vielleicht gibt es bald schon was ähnliches für Flüge ab Frankfurt oder München.

Servus allerseits,

wie ich gelesen habe, gab es also bisher keine negativen Erfahrungen mit Ethiad? Würde nämlich mit denen Ende Mai nach DU fliegen, Hin-und Rückflug kosten 894 € inkl. allem (d.h. schon mit Steuern), Aufenthalt in Abu Dhabi beträgt grade mal 3 Stunden. Was günstigeres habe ich so kurzfristig nicht finden können....
Falls jemand doch schon mal probleme mit Ethiad hatte, bitte unbedingt melden!

PS:
Das ticket ist 12 monate gültig, umbuchung auf ein anderes rückflugdatum kostet 50 € (bei Emirates sinds 55 €);

Hallo Konstantin,
hatte zwar keine Probleme mit Etihad - melde mich aber trotzdem, denn wenn du hier im Forum schaust, dann habe ich mich schon mal sehr positiv über diese Airline geäußert. Wir sind letztes Jahr mit ihnen nach Bangkok (und dann weiter nach Kambodscha) - es war absolut Klasse und eigentlich das Beste was ich bisher so hatte (kann vergleichen, da bereits geflogen mit: Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Cathay Pacific, Qantas...). Die Flieger sind neu und du hast ein Wahnsinnsangebot an Unterhaltung, der eigene Screen ist so groß, wie ich ihn noch nie in der Holzklasse hatte.... auch das Essen absolut top! Also: schlag zu... du machst nix falsch!
Schau, dass du nicht allzu lange Aufenthalt in Abu Dhabi hast (naja, beeinflussen kannst du es ja eh nicht), denn der Flughafen ist so übersichtlich, dass es schon fast wie ein Regionalflughafen ist. Da ist nichts mit Entertainment wie auf dem Changi Airport in S'pore... und das Angebot in den 3 Läden hast du schnell gecheckt. Wir hatten glücklicherweise nur knapp 2 Stunden in Abu Dhabi - das hat zum Beine vertreten gereicht.

Unbedingt: Melde dich online auf der Homepage von Etihad beim Vielfliegerclub (Etihad Guest) an - auch wenn absehbar ist, dass du so schnell nicht wieder in die Ferne reisen wirst, die Meilen kann man sogar in "Sachleistungen" umwandeln - wie: feine Schokolade, Telefonkarten oder anderes Zeugs - sie werden an deine Heimatadresse gesendet, also ein kleiner Nebeneffekt.

Ach ja, und was noch Klasse ist: 30kg Freigepäck in der Economy Class ... nee, habe gerade auf der homepage geschaut, davon ist nicht mehr die Rede! 20 kg in der Coral Zone (Economy)... im November letzten Jahres stand auf unserem Ticket noch "30kg" - aber sie schreiben auch "*As a special gesture, we offer additional allowance on various routes. Please contact your local Etihad office to find out the allowance applicable to your flight. - vielleicht gelten die 30kg auch DU. Spätestens auf deinem Ticket steht es!

Viel Spaß - und glaube mir, du machst bei dem Preis nichts falsch!

PS. wenn du Rail & Fly benötigst, dann kostet es nichts extra... das ist immer schon mit drin - einfach bei der Buchung im Reisebüro (oder online: unter Bemerkungen) mit angeben!

Morgen;

ich war leider noch nie in Australien.
aber möchte im Oktober nach PERTH und Sydney.

zum Thema ETIHAD kann ich die positiven Facts nur bestätigen.
bin schon 4 mal mit denen nach Bangkok geflogen.
und war immer Top,war auch schon mit EK unterwegs.

ev. einen Stopover in AUH machen und dann ist das in Ordnung.
ich fliege jetzt beruflich wieder nach Bangkok diesmal mit THAI ab München.

falls wer einen Tipp hat welchen Carrier ich nach PERTH nehmen soll ?
und retour von SYD ?

Zum Thema Etihad hier mal eine Warnung:
Wollte doch mit denen nach SYD fliegen (s.o.), wurde aber mittlerweile herb enttäuscht! Etihad hat im vergleich zu qantas, emirates etc. zwar die günstigsten preise für die unteren buchungsklassen (also economy bzw. "coral"), hat diese buchungsklassen aber noch nicht freigegeben. im klartext heißt das: hin-und rückflug für 894 € lässt sich einfach nicht buchen, im reisebüro sagten sie mir, dass etihad sich irgendwie querstellt. enttäuschung!
naja, flieg jetzt mit emirates nach perth für ca. 950 €, ist noch zu verkraften!

Während sich europäische Airlines mehr und mehr aus dem Australien-Geschäft zurückziehen powern die arabischen Linien desto mehr.

Gerade hat Qatar Airways bekannt gegeben, dass sie eine Verbindung nach Sydney planen, da kommt auch schon die nächste neue Verbindung nach DU:

Abu Dhabi: Etihad Airways will start a three flights-a-week service in September to the Australian city of Brisbane from Abu Dhabi.

Brisbane, the capital of the state of Queensland which is home to the world-famous Gold Coast, will be Etihad’s second destination in Australia following the highly successful Sydney route which started in March.

The Brisbane flights, which will operate via Singapore, will provide business and leisure travellers from the Middle East with a frequent service to Australia’s third biggest city.

James Hogan, Etihad Airways’ chief executive, said: “Since the launch of our Abu Dhabi to Sydney service, we have been eager to expand our Australia operations even further and Brisbane is the ideal destination to add to our flight network.”

“Our customers will be able to travel from Abu Dhabi, with a one hour stop in Singapore, to Brisbane which is the gateway to Queensland and the Gold Coast.”

Australia is one of the most popular holiday destinations for UAE nationals with more than 23,000 Emiratis visiting the country in 2006, a seven-fold increase from 1996.

Nationals from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries can also apply for a two year tourist visa which allows multiple entries to Australia, perfect for annual family visits.

Margaret Keech, Queensland’s minister for tourism, said: “Australia’s cultural diversity ensures that it is an ideal holiday and business destination for visitors from the Middle East. Furthermore not only is Brisbane the perfect launch point for visiting Queensland’s spectacular coastline and countryside, it is also one of the world’s most vibrant and cosmopolitan cities.”

Etihad will operate a two cabin Airbus A330-200 between Abu Dhabi and Brisbane configured to carry 262 passengers, with 22 in business class and 240 in economy.
