G'day

• G'day there,

I'm from Oz, but at the moment I live in Tübingen, Baden-Württemburg.

I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about Australia. In fact, I'm teaching a short course about Australia at the local Volkhochschulen in a couple of months.. 8)

I've been in Germany for nearly 19 months now. (Aber mein Deutsch ist schlecht!)

Here's my German website:

Cheers + take it easy..

• Hello and welcome

at the Australien-Forum. I hope you'll like it.

Is it too indiscrete to ask you, where you 're from at Australia?
Maybe I can ask you some questions about your OZ-region.

Our family will visit Australia in a few weeks -> look here. So we are looking for every useful information.

C' ya, mate...

• Yeah no worries,

I can tell you all about things to see in and around Sydney.

Personally I like hiking and camping, so I can give lots of advice about that in particular, but I also know Sydney very well.

I've also travelled around a bit in Australia, but I haven't been to the far north.

• What kind of things would your family like to do? What plans have you made already?

ok.. the first place I recommend is called 'Jenolan Caves' - a huge and famous limestone cave system about 3 hours west of Sydney in the Blue Mountains. You can take a train to a town called Katoomba then take a bus to the caves.. the caves are really spectacular:

There are many very nice walks and views around Katoomba.

• hello bunyip. welcome to the forum =)

you said that you have camped a lot and stuff like that. i've been looking around for useful informations in the internet but i was not able to find some "good" stuff. my "main" question is: is it allowed to camp in the caravan-spots when you just got a bike and a tent? another question would be : im organizing my trip to queensland at the moment and im a little bit afraid that there are quite less camping-places that i thougth. i don't know if you are able to give my some infos about camping in queensland. if not, its not a problem i would be happy if you can just tell something about the difference of camping with a tent and "camping" with a car/caravan, whatever.

many regards and i'm looking forward to hearing from you =)

• Here is a big list of National Parks and forests in Queensland that have good facilities for camping with a tent:

Queensland National Parks and forests

You can see that some camping sites require a booking, some not.

In Germany the camping sites seem to be more for both caravan camping and tent camping. In Australia camping is quite different!

Don't worry, there are hundreds of places you can camp with your tent and bike in Queensland!

By the way, I will post some photos soon of a 5 month cycle tour that an Australian friend did in Western Australia. :)

• Some info about camping fees in Queensland:

Camping fees in Queensland

Each state is a bit different in regards to camping fees. In some states you can pay for longer periods of time (eg. 6 months or one year). It seems that in Queensland you have to pay for each night. Maybe that is because there are so many people visiting some of camping sites in Queensland, especially near or on the Great Barrier Reef.

• Hi Nofuel..

I only miss Australia when it's a hot day here, so I feel like going to the beach!

This part of Germany is very very nice though.. :)

• Here's some more good advice - the words 'advice' and 'information' never have an 's' at the end!

(sorry, I teach English) ;)

Please note there is a second message regarding camping in Queensland above..

• ...but there is no beach in this part of Germany, bad luck. Are you from Sydney?
I love the outback...the red soil, blue sky and Ghost gums.
I wish you a nice stay here in Germany!
Best wishes, Petra

• Danke schön!

Here there is only the Neckar River and a Baggersee :P

Yep I was born in Sydney but grew up on a 20 hectare farm about 2 hours south-west of Sydney.. we had many animals, including 60 sheep and a pet wombat :)

• Dear pranti123,

If you're interested in cycling in Australia, here's a tour one of my Australian friends did down the West Coast (6000km, 5 month tour). He's a photographer so he took lots of great pictures along the way:

Just tell me when I should go to München and I will bring my 'Maß' :P

Cheers..

To bring your Mass-Krug you should come in September at the time of the Oktoberfest...of course :] :] :] :]

The dates of our meetings you will find in the **Kalender** here in the Forum or in our threads. Otherwise you also can just send me a message, a PN and let me know when you will be in Munich and we will organise a meeting. No worries...

• :D :D :D :D :D :D That's I understand!!!!! I've just come from an Aussie-Pub and I do not drink beer, but my friend said that it is very difficult to enjoy drinking the aussie beer after you got used to the bavarian beer again :D :D :D :D

I hope you have got the right size of stubby holder for your Mass-Krug.... :D
