hmmm... ich suche die Übersetzung für: "But its horses for courses..."

so, jetzt habe ich noch eine Redewwendung die ich im englischen einfach nicht finden kann, vielleicht weiss von euch jemand eine Entsprechung: etwas in trockenen Tüchern haben.
Zum Beispiel, nach Abschluss eines Vertrages sagt man oft: "Das Projekt ist in trockenen Tüchern"

Selbst wenn in dem Wörterbuch nichts direkt drin steht wird am unteren Ende der Seite auf Forumsdiskussionen verlinkt in denen der gesuchte Begriff vorkommt. Phrasen.com does have it.. for example I just typed 'Tüchern' and I found it easily..

In Australia we probably say "home and hosed' more than 'home and dry'..

But just to be clear, does "Das Projekt ist in trockenen Tüchern" mean, in other words, something like "The project is basically finished", or "The project is completely finished", etc..

I wouldn´t say the project has been finished, I´d rather say the plannings are done, the contracts are signed, but the project itself has not yet started.

The term "in trockenen Tüchern" is mostly used to express that all the plannings, preparations and paper-warfare has been done, now the real project may start.

For example: Today I wanted to use this idiom in a chat with friends, just wanted to say, my holliday is granted, the flight tickets are lying in front of me, got a brandnew passport and the voucher for the rented car is issued, so everything is "in trockenen Tüchern", that means nothing can stop me anymore to start my hollidays, albeit the holliday itself has not yet started.

Yeah, I guess you could say, "so now I'm home and hosed.."

You could also say, for example, "My holiday plans are right on track".
