2.2 The Engineering Competency Report (ECR) Pathway
The Engineering Competency Report (ECR) pathway is for engineers who have been in the workforce for some time practicing engineering, and who are more confident in their competence than Professional Development Program participants.
To enrol on the ECR pathway engineers need to have three or more years of engineering experience. The pathway is open to members of Engineers Australia at the grade of Member or higher, or Stage 1 competent engineers that have been granted access to eChartered, either by the eChartered Access Request form process or receipt of a letter of recognition of academic standing prior to RPEQ assessment.
In the Submission stage, engineers on the ECR pathway need to prepare Engineering Competency Claims for all 16 Elements of Competence.
Participants also need to provide with their Submission an up-to-date CV outlining their career history since graduation, an Engineering Experience Record, that is a verified record of their career history for their last three years of engineering experience, and a record of CPD, best explained on the CPD website.
ECR pathway participants need to submit their entire list of Engineering Competency Claims, CV, CPD and Engineering Experience Record simultaneously for assessment.
ECR participant resources
There are a variety of resources available to ECR participants, including:
Public free workshops to learn about Chartered Status and eChartered
Access to Engineers Australia Assessors to discuss their application
Online tutorials for ECR participants, Verifiers and PDP Coordinators
An invitation to participate in the eChartered Community of Practice to learn, network and share ideas
Examples of Engineering Competency Claims
Examples of the Engineering Experience Record f(not yet available)
See the Resources section of the eChartered website for more information.
ECR participants need to be active by making their Submission on eChartered inside a 12-month period. Those who do not may be contacted by Engineers Australia to discuss their situation.
Most engineers in Australia applying for their Stage 2 competency assessment to become a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) will use this pathway. Successful applicants will receive a Letter of Assessment to support their application to become an RPEQ.
See the Pathway requirements summary table for a summary of required evidence at each stage of eChartered for ECR pathway participants.
